Recycling Changes For 2018
Effective January 1, 2018, weekly recycling starts for City of Joliet residents. Please have your recyclables placed out for collection no later than 7:00 AM on your collection day. Please remember to only put recyclables in your recycling cart. It is important that you do not place food, liquids, and plastic bags of any kind in the recycling carts.
On January 8, 2018, (weather permitting) Christmas tree composting will take place be-tween 7:00 AM and 3:30 PM at the Joliet Public Works Department at 1203 Cedarwood Drive. Residents can bring their Christmas trees for composting. These trees will be composted and will not go to a landfill. Trees do not need to be cut down and all orna-ments, tinsel, and lights must be removed. If there is a large snow storm, this collection will take place at a later date due to lack of personnel to man the drop off.
The last day to place live Christmas trees outside at the curb for garbage collection pickup is Wednesday, January 31, 2018. If your tree is 5 feet in length or less put it out in one piece and cut in half if it measures more than 5 feet tall. Place your tree at your normal pick-up location (curb or alley) on your regular trash day for pick up.
Also, if residents want larger or smaller garbage or recycling carts, they have until March 1, 2018, to exchange them for free. After that date, normal fees of $40 per cart apply. Please call 815-280-7854 for your free cart size exchange.
Finally, please note that household hazardous waste and electronic recycling begins January 1, 2018. Residents who pay for municipal waste on their water and sewer bills can call 800-449-7857 or email email@example.com to set up a collection pickup. There is no fee for this collection. Operators are available in both English and Spanish.
