Post Date:09/11/2017 2:15 PM

The City of Joliet has been awarded the Government Finance Officers Association Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2017 Budget. This is the first time the City received this award and it represents a significant achievement by the City of Joliet. It reflects the commitment of the City staff in meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, the City had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well the City’s budget serves as:

  • A policy document
  • A financial plan
  • An operations guide
  • A communications device

Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, and in the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.
In addition to the award, a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation is also presented to the individual(s) or department designated as being primarily responsible for having achieved the award. The City of Joliet is proud to announce this Certificate of Appreciation has been awarded to James Ghedotte, Director of Finance.
“The City Council, Employees and Department Heads all played a significant part in developing and producing a professional budget document. Winning the award demonstrates the City’s commitment in maintaining transparency in all its public financial reports”, said Mr. Ghedotte.
There are over 1,600 participants in the Budget Awards Program. Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.
